Who am I on the Web?

Social Beginnings

Games to Social Media

I have used the internet for most of my life, I can remember playing older video games on my Nintendo DS when I was a kid. I did not have social media until I started high school, where I downloaded Instagram and Snapchat as forms of communication with my peers. I recently also have started using Facebook, Nextdoor, and various other social media platforms. But nothing has ever truly been entirely mine and owned by me, that was until I started this site! I picked the domain name jdnett.com because it is the simplest generic thing that will come up if my name gets searched for, this way if recruiters or people search my name up, this site will hopefully be a top result for them to check out.

My Online Identity

Search Me Up!

If you search up “JD Nett” depending on your Internet browser (I use chrome), you will see various results about my lacrosse career. When I search myself up I first see my schools UMW Lacrosse roster page for myself, following that you will see my Linkedin, Instagram, Hudl, and a few small newspaper articles about Lacrosse and winning UMW’s Eagle Egg challenge.

Security Concerns

Having lots of information about you when searched up is a double edged sword. On one hand there is lots of interesting information about you, but on the other it is a real security concern. Malicious hackers can use all these sites & social media info to gather lots of information bout me that could potentially be used in a targeted social engineered scam against me. I can further prevent attacks like these from happening by not oversharing sensitive information and staying alert for phishing scams when going through something like an email inbox.
